The Clarion Hotel and Convention Center in Cedar Rapids Iowa is pleased to announce our Environmental (GREEN=Earth & body friendly) initiatives!
- Renovation using environmentally friendly, green, materials.
- Only using no or low VOC paints (VOC means Volatile Organic Chemicals, ie unhealthy chemicals)
- Use of a Hybrid car - a 2007 Toyota Prius - for airport shuttle runs with less than 3 guests
- Converting to energy saving compact fluorescent or LED low energy lighting
- Asphalt resealing with a natural environmentally friendly material, Gilsonite, as opposed to coal tar which is very toxic.
- The Clarion Hotel & Convention Center has now joined as a member of Alliant Energy’s “Second Nature” program which supports the production of alternative renewable energy sources such as wind energy generated on Iowa farms.
- We have made a commitment to recycling and you will find a recycling container in your room. Please place all glass, aluminum and plastic containers that can be recycled in this container, and trash in your trash containers.
- We will be offering shortly several hypo allergenic European style rooms featuring bamboo flooring instead of carpet, hypo allergenic bedding materials, organic mattresses, a special air filter, and other upgraded amenities.
- At the Clarion Hotel & Convention Center we have switched to more environmentally friendly laundry and other cleaners.
- Like many hotels, we offer the guest the option to conserve on water and laundry cleaners by using towels or linens more than one day. It’s your option, but we thank you for participating whenever possible. This saves us money as well, which helps us keep our pricing lower. Unlike most other hotels, our commitment to the environment inside and outside our hotel goes way beyond this.
- We are installing special new technology shower heads which are designed to provide a great shower with less water. We want your feedback, so please let us know how you like them and any other comments you may have on your guest comment card.
- Our “Green” floor guest rooms also will feature new toilets which use power flushing to save water and give you the option of a larger flush for solids, or a smaller water flush for liquids. We thank you for using this system.
- New energy efficient heating and air conditioning units are being installed in all of our Green floor rooms, and where needed which reduce energy consumption by 33%
- New E rated, energy saving glass is being installed in many guest rooms and the indoor pool area.
As we renovate we are also adding other amenities and upgrades in many rooms. Other Healthy Changes and Upgrades include:
- We have eliminated the use of oils with trans-fats in our kitchen.
- Our restaurant will be offering a new menu with new healthy choices featuring a Global Menu with Local Fresh Foods in season.
- The dining room will also be offering some organic food choices.
- The 33rd Avenue Sports Bar will be offering some exciting new health drinks and a selection of international beer and wines along with our usual selection of popular beverages.
- Our top three floors of hotel rooms are now completely SMOKE FREE.
- Our fitness center is being rebuilt with all new equipment
- The 6th floor, our Green floor, and Executive rooms will feature new larger flat screen HDTVs
- A newly upgraded business center will provide a focused space for your business activity with more computers and a special boarding pass printing station.
- The board room and banquet/conference rooms are receiving a fresh new look
We hope you enjoy our refurbished hotel and invite you to give us your input as we complete these improvements over the next three or four months. We will manage these renovations such that even while they are happening, there will be no inconvenience to our guests. Each area will be worked on separately and rooms renovated alternately such that we will continue operations without any interruption or decrease of service.
